I have spent a big percentage of the last 8+ years trying and/or researching the HECK out of home-based business ideas. I have always had an entrepreneurial mindset for as long as I can remember and have always known that I wanted to be my own boss. As the saying goes, “If you don't build your dream, someone will hire you to build theirs!” I know & accept the amount of time, hard work, discipline, diligence, & determination it takes to be a success. I have tried things, made money with some (and none with others), but I am still not pleased.
Earning a living isn't the only thing I'm after. I also want to make a DIFFERENCE. Not the “I just got this new shade of lipstick and it makes me feel beautiful!” difference, but a real true difference. I was hoping & praying that The-Teen-Spot would be a success in terms of helping others. There are so many teens today who have absolutely no guidance or support system and I would love to change that.
Unfortunately, though, I haven't gotten many bites in the teen department. I'm getting a decent amount of page-views on the website, but a very large percentage of those are adults. Teens are not utilizing the website for what it is meant to be. They are not participating in the contests, fundraisers, forum, or anonymous advice “column.” I have adults telling me left and right what a good thing The-Teen-Spot is and that they'd be glad to help out with it. But when it comes down to it, very very few of those adults have actually came through. Everyone wants something positive, constructive, & safe for teens to participate in... but no one is willing to give up 10 minutes of their time to help make it happen. Does that discourage me? Definitely. But am I giving up on it? Not a chance. I know what it COULD be and I'm determined to make it into that somehow.
As you may or may not know, we (my husband, son, & I) are planning to hit the road in March to travel the USA for a while. It is a dream we've had for years and have always put on the back-burner, due to a fear of the unknown & the “what if's” that tend to arise when we, as humans, are debating taking a leap of faith. What we have come to realize, though, is that our possessions mean nothing at all to us when it really comes down to it. My husband makes decent money at his job but what good is that when you don't have time to enjoy your life? He works 10-12 hours/day 6 days/week (7 occasionally) to pay for our possessions. What time is left for “living?” When I am on my death-bed, I do not want to regret not following my dreams. You do not have to be 90 years old to take your last breath, you can honestly go at any given moment. We are no longer letting life pass us by, we are taking charge of our lives.
You can always make more money but you can NEVER make more time. Our son will be 3 in April and it seems like he was just born yesterday. I know the remaining 15 years of his life (after which he will have reached adult-hood) will go by just as fast, or even faster. We want to spend our time together, as a family, making precious memories.
In planning for this lifestyle change, I have been researching even MORE (if that's possible) for home-based business ideas that we can do on the road, together, as a family. We will need to earn enough to continue paying our bills (we will still have the Xterra & travel-trailer payments, among other things) and live off of. I will continue selling AVON through my website at: www.YourAvon.Com/MDVanMeter doing direct-delivery orders (where your order is shipped straight to you, the customer), being an affiliate for Amazon & a few other select companies, selling jewelry at: http://TinyHomeJewelry.Weebly.Com , and earning pennies from google adsense ads on my blog www.TinyHomeBigLife.Com & The-Teen-Spot: www.The-Teen-Spot.Com But those things simply do not satisfy me. They do not earn enough to live off of, for starters...and they do not make a real DIFFERENCE to anyone.
We would love nothing more than to start a nonprofit organization that we could work on the road: assisting the less-fortunate (humans as well as animals) with food, clothing, shelter, hygiene & cleaning items, etc. Unfortunately, becoming a legal nonprofit organization takes a significant amount of time & money. Not to mention the fact that raising funds for the nonprofit would be the most difficult task... humanity in general tends to disgust me considering very few people nowadays are willing to help others if they're not getting something in return. What ever happened to doing something nice JUST to be doing something nice? Why all the bitterness and selfishness? Why has the world let money and greed overtake the things that truly matter? It saddens me that the world has become this way.
In any event, back to the topic at hand... we are racking our brains & praying for guidance. We are praying that God will somehow show/tell us what it is that we can do, to make a difference to someone, somewhere, in our travels. We truly believe that God takes care of those who help others. Those who take the time to give others hope.
If you have any ideas, tips, or suggestions for us please let us know. If you'd like to help us make our traveling dream a reality, please consider placing an order for Avon products or jewelry, or using our affiliate link when placing an order with Amazon. Thank you to those who actually take the time to read this NOVEL in it's entirety. It's something I've been meaning to write for quite a while now. Goodnight! ;)
