Remembering Our Veterans
Memorial Day: An American holiday observed on the last Monday of May, honors men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military.
Today Dale & I were out running some errands and decided to run to Rainelle so he could see the bikers (Military Veteran Bikers- Rolling Thunder/Run For The Wall. If you're not familiar with them, you can check them out here and here...and here.) Being from the other end of the county, he had never had the pleasure of seeing them before. Although it was sad to see that the number of bikers participating has drastically reduced since I was a student at Rainelle Elementary School, seeing them brought back a lot of memories for me....
I remember sitting on the ground along side the road, waving flags as they drove into town. Spending the afternoon running around the football field- chatting with the bikers, checking out their motorcycles, and getting their "autographs." We always looked forward to this day all year and thought of the bikers the way most people think of celebrities. Wouldn't it be nice if every person, no matter the age, seen things that way? If everyone respected and cared as much about veterans as they do ball players, singers, actors/actresses, etc? Because they ARE the true heroes. They are the ones who DESERVE our respect and appreciation, more than any other person on earth.... P.S. Please take a moment to comment on this post and SHARE it!
