Review of Boondocking at Magnolia Beach, TX.

Magnolia Beach (In Port Lavaca, TX.)  Located at/near: 415 Ocean Drive Port Lavaca, Texas.
GPS Coordinates: 28.558502, -96.53347

Review completed on May 31st, 2015.

Hookups:  NONE. This is a FREE boondocking/dry camping area with no hook-ups. There are 2 public restrooms on the property, a short walk or drive from your RV (depending on how far down the beach you choose to park/set up.) There are RV parks in the area, so I'm sure it would be no problem to dump your tanks at one of them on your way out, for a nominal fee. There are also several trash cans provided throughout the beach area, as well as some small picnic shelters that each include a picnic table & grill.

Number of sites available: ???  Crushed shell beach area, park wherever you wish! I recommend arriving on a weekday, that way you will most likely have first chance at whichever spot you prefer. We chose a spot right beside the wooden Magnolia Beach sign, so we would only have people on ONE side of us rather than both sides.

Friendliness of the staff: No staff.

Notes: We boondocked at Magnolia Beach from May 28th - May 31st, 2015. We would have loved to have stayed longer, but had to return to work the next morning. We arrived on a Thursday and there were very few people there. The weekend was very busy during the day with people fishing and just hanging out. However, as far as overnighters/RVers- we were the only ones Thursday night, only 3 others Friday night, and 5-6 others Saturday night. There is quite a bit of traffic driving by, day and night, since there is a residential area there. It did not cause any problems for us, though. We were totally unaware of the fact that they do indeed have alligators in the area, lol, but there ended up being a 7 foot alligator hanging out in the little pond-type area next to/directly behind us. It never left it's little area, though, so all was well. The mosquitoes were VERY bad on one particular night during our stay, so I definitely recommend taking some good bug spray with you, just in case. It was a nice peaceful place & I've been told that if you go in the cooler months, there are typically not many people there- even during the day. Stores/town (Port Lavaca) is about 20-30 minutes away. We had service on our AT&T phones. At Magnolia Beach you are staying right ON the beach and it's FREE! What more could you ask for??? Very nice place and we will definitely be going back!

Would you recommend Magnolia Beach to others?  YES  NO
