How to De-Skunk Your Dog.
*Note: The first thing you should do when you notice your skunky-smelling dog, is to check his/her eyes. If they are red, that means some of the skunk's spray went into his/her eyes. Flush them with cool water before beginning this de-skunking bath.*
Step 1- If you have rubber gloves- put those on now. Mix together 1 quart of peroxide, 1 tsp of dish detergent (I prefer Dawn), 1/4 cup of baking soda, and 3 drops of lemon essential oil (optional.)
Step 2- Wet your dog thoroughly.
Step 3- Cover your dog in the de-skunking mixture, being very careful not to get the mixture in your dog's eyes. Rub the mixture into the skin well to get hair completely saturated.
Step 4- Allow mixture to sit on your dog for 10 minutes.
Step 5- Rinse your dog thoroughly.
Step 6- Wash/condition your dog, as usual.
Step 7- Rinse well.
Step 8- Towel and air dry your dog.
Step 9- Enjoy your skunk-free dog again! =)
TIPS: If your dog is prone to getting skunked, you may want to keep these 3 cheap, simple supplies on hand at all times! Do NOT store leftover mixture, if you do not use it all just dump it out.
